Warning About Bank Impersonation to Fraudulently Collect Biometric Data

1. Fraudulent Methods:

  • Impersonation and Personal Information Collection:
Scammers impersonate bank staff and contact customers via phone calls, text messages, or social media platforms such as Zalo, Viber, and Facebook. They request personal information, bank account details, ID card images, and may even ask for video calls to gather additional biometric data like facial features, voice, and gestures.

  • Malicious Links and Apps:
Scammers send links urging customers to download and install an application on their mobile devices, claiming it will assist with biometric data collection. These links often lead to malware or spyware, enabling them to steal further customer information.

  • Account Takeover and Exploitation:
Once sufficient data is collected, scammers use the information to log in, steal funds from bank accounts, and exploit customer data for malicious purposes.

2. Safety Recommendations for Secure Transactions:

  • Official Biometric Collection Points:
IVB collects biometric data only through the official IVB application or in person at IVB branches and transaction offices nationwide.

  • Avoid Suspicious Links:
Do not click on unknown links or open attachments in emails from unverified senders.

  • Protect Sensitive Information:
Never share personal or account information (username, password, OTP codes) or card service details (card numbers, OTP codes) with anyone, including bank employees.

  • Be Cautious on Social Media:
Avoid sharing personal information, bank service details, or transaction information on social media platforms.

  • Beware of QR Codes:
Exercise caution with QR codes posted in public places, on social media, or in emails.

  • Do Not Rent or Share Accounts:
Do not sell, exchange, rent, or lend payment accounts or personal identification documents.

Warning

According to Point C, Clause 5, Article 17 of Circular 17/2024/TT-NHNN, biometric authentication will be required for all money transfer transactions starting January 1, 2025. Even transactions below 10 million VND will require biometric verification.

For customers who do not own smartphones, whose phones lack NFC, or are unable to set up biometric authentication at home, support will be provided at IVB branches or transaction offices where their cards were issued.

Reminder: When visiting IVB branches, please bring your Citizen ID card or National ID card.
